Jewish Federations of North America expressed relief that the 10-week shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security ended on Thursday, restoring critical operations at a moment when threats facing Jewish communities and other vulnerable populations remain alarmingly high.
Jewish Federations strongly encourage DHS to immediately release dollars set aside for critical services, including the $274.5 million in fiscal year 2025 Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) awards designated to provide essential resources to help protect synagogues, schools, and community institutions.
Federations thank Congress for the fiscal year 2026 NSGP allocation of $300 million and urge DHS to move the RFPs out swiftly to potential applicants.
Antisemitism continues to plague the nation, and demand for these funds continues to exceed available resources, which only underscores both the urgency and importance of this program. That’s why Jewish Federations are continuing the fight for $1 billion for FY2027.
Every day matters in communities across the country that rely on these resources to strengthen security, deter threats, and safeguard lives. Jewish Federations remain committed to working with federal partners to ensure that these funds are distributed quickly and effectively. The safety and security of our communities cannot wait.
