How We Started

 

The Federation of Jewish Charities of Macon, now known as The Jewish Federation of Macon & Middle Georgia, was formed February 2, 1942 by Morris Michael, L.J. Bernd, L.E. Schwartz, M.R. Burg, Ben Lubell, M.J. Whitman, H. Marshall, and A. I. Blum.  Its purpose was: To foster cooperation among Jewish welfare organizations, To engage in philanthropic, cultural, or other group activities which will contribute to the welfare of the community, To coordinate the fund-raising activities of local, national and overseas agencies, To raise, collect and distribute funds for the advancement of the welfare of the community, either directly or through presently existing or subsequently established agencies.
